I think I have asked this question before, when is the best time to introduce breeding partners to each other, I have got my Blue Opaline hen and she has been in quarantine but is ready to go mix with the other birds now. I want to breed her with my Lutino cock, the question is, is it too late to isolate the two and put them in a separate cage so they can get to know each other? and is it the right time to introduce the other birds to each other. Just a footnote to all of this I am finding my self rearranging my birds to accommodate the red rumps and getting excited about the coming breeding season, I am really getting addicted to these charming little birds.

john you can add hen birds to cock birds at any time of the year. just monitor them for the first hour to see if they are not fighting. i`m sure the cock bird will welcome her with open arms seeing it is nearing breeding season. i now breeders and i have done this my self who swap partners around after the first clutch of babies have left the nest. they just take the box away from the birds for a few weeks and when it is re introduced the new partners are right back into it so to speak.

Thanks Matt I wasn't sure if they mated for life, so there isn't a problem with putting them with different partners each season?

last season i had a pair of lime/blue/pied cock with a blue pied hen and they had a clutch of 5 young and when they were weaned i moved all the babies and the mother to the holding cage and put a grey-green/blue hen with the cock and took the box out for 2 weeks while they got use to each other and when i put the box back in i got a clutch of 3 out of that pair.
