today on my nest inspection of the boxes. i have a hen that has a chick that is just about to fledge and she has laid the first egg of her 2nd clutch today. what should i do?

What should you do? Leave her alone!
She will keep laying and the young one will come out when ready or the hen will start getting into it and will start plucking feathers.
I have had alot wanting and going back down early and first clutch of young are still in the nest, then they start getting plucked because the hen wants them out.
Possible solution second box in cage before she starts laying again. I do this with the problem pairs of my grassies and neophemas and has worked for me over the years.
Also if you have a problem pair that pluck the young try taking the lid off the nest box, sometimes works as well.
Or another solution, problem birds to the dealers.

the young one fledged today. the mother already plucked the chick, it should be alright now as it fledged
