I am new to breeding Red Rumps and still confused about some of the colours to expect. I currently have my birds in an open avairy with a selection of logs and boxes.
Note: I see some people refer to yellow opaline. My opaline male is yellow but my females all have green tones. Is there a different type of opaline?
Pair 1: Pied cock x Opaline hen sitting on 3 eggs. Never seen them mate but he is always feeding her.
I suspect that I will get Normal/pied/opaline cocks and Normal/pied hens. Am I right?
Pair 2: Still trying to work out which box they like. but never seen them mate. Purchased as proven breeding pair.
Lutino/Opaline/Lime cock x Lutino Blue (Albino) hen.
This is were I am likely to get it wrong because I know very little about the lime gene. I thought it was sex linked but I've seen some explainations where Lime cocks are producing Lime cocks offspring dispite there being no lime in the hen. Going off other treads I am expecting:
Lutino/lime, Lutino/blue, Lutino/Opaline & Lutino/combination of lime, blue and opaline cocks
Lutino, Lutino/blue, Lutino/Opaline and Lutino Lime hens.
How did I go??
Pair 3: Normal cock x Cinnamon pied hen. He is a randy little boy and she is starting to loose feathers around the right side of her head. I am yet to see him feed her. Still trying to work out which box they like.
Expecting, Normal/cinnamon/pied cocks and hens
Pair 4: Opaline x opaline Have not seen any mating but lots of preening and he likes jumping up and down in front of her. Very funny to watch.
Expecting 100% Opaline cocks and hens
Pair 5: Normal x opaline No mating at this stage but he feeds her occassionally and they are inseperable. She often looks like she is trying to mount him.
Expecting Normal/opaline cocks and Normal hens
Any help with my pairings outcomes will be appreciated.
Cheers
Elke
