Sorry to ask a question that has been asked before... Newbie here, and I read everything I could find, and I still don't understand what's going on with my birds! I used to raise Gouldian Finches so I am used to genetics but I can't quite seem to grasp these. I can't find pictures that identify a bird as what I think I understand...
I was told both my cock and hen are Opaline, he is Australian Blue and she is Platinum. They had 4 babies who are currently finishing their first molt. It looks like 1 is Australian Blue (looks like cock), 2 are Platinum (look like hen), and the last one looks pure white from the front, the top of his head and the underside of his tale is pale, pale gray, his rump is pale turquoise, and his wing and tail feathers are black with pale, pale turquoise edges. I have seen a couple of internet pictures where this color is identified as Australian Blue Opaline. (Totally confused here. I thought I read that Opaline is a recessive gene that reduces the color black. But this baby (and the pictures I looked at) have black on their wing and tail feathers.)
If I understand correctly, the cock is Blue split to Opaline because he shows Blue? The hen is Platinum split to Opaline because she shows Platinum? So the babies could be B x O, B x P, O x O, or P x O? What color shows in a O x O?
Thank you for your help.
